We welcome Rebecca Ryan, who was co-opted onto Council as the second District 5 Council representative in May. Rebecca replaces Heleen du Plessis who stepped down from Council.
Born in New Zealand, Rebecca graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Music from the University of Otago. She won the New Zealand Performing Arts National Award for Singing before moving to London where she studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Penelope Mackay. Concert engagements have included performances with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Bath Philharmonia, the City of London Sinfonia, the Irish Baroque Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Soloists’ Chamber Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, and Dunedin Symphony Orchestra. Her operatic roles have included Micaëla Carmen, Angelica Orlando, Cherubino Le nozze di Figaro (including performances at the Buxton Festival) and Barmherzigkeit Die Schuldigkeit des Ersten Gebotes (The First Commandment, which was performed at London’s first music hall, Willtons). Her recordings include Silete venti on CD for Naxos, Ch’io mi scordi di te (with Barry Douglas) for RTÉ TV’s The Symphony Sessions, Exsultate Jubilate for RTÉ TV’s The Mozart Sessions and Father and Son: Music by John and Anthony Ritchie for Ode Records.
