Governance
The IRMTNZ Council consists of 10 democratically elected members representing five geographical districts across Aotearoa (two members per district). The President and Vice-President are elected from within the Council ranks.
Additionally, in accordance with the Music Teachers Act 1981, a Government Nominee is appointed. The Government Nominee is required to serve on the Registration Board.
Our Registrar manages our membership administration and finances, and four additional roles are currently filled by incumbent Council members:
- Communications Coordinator
- Teacher Training Course (TTC) Coordinator
- NZQA Consultant
- National Conference Registrar
For efficient and effective governance Council members work together in sub-committees and special working groups.
Our Registration Board consists of one member representing each of five districts and our Government Nominee.
Four sub-committees manage Communications, Finance, Teacher Training & Education, and National Professional Development.
Our Ethics Committee consists of our President, Government Nominee, Registrar and one other councillor.
Council meets twice yearly – via video-conference mid-year and in person each January.
Council is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / The Treaty of Waitangi.
Council members are required to record their carbon footprint when carrying out council work. These are then included in an overall calculation to ensure that Council remains carbon neutral.
